Back To School - With Reality U!
September 29, 2020
The Pando Initiative is thrilled to be back in schools, working with students to enable them to make the connection of how their performance in school TODAY, impacts their future. Reality U is a fun and interactive simulation gives students a glimpse into what life could look like as a 26 year old. Each scenario includes a monthly income, credit card debt, as well as their marital and family status.
Recently, Reality U Director, Patrick Sehl spent two days in Southern Lyon, visiting with students from Olpe and Hartford Middle/High Schools. In response to COVID-10 restrictions and guidelines, the staff at Olpe & Hartford did an exceptional job of helping Pando connect with students while social distancing and putting best practices into place. Temperature checks were given, hallways were clearly indicated with arrows to reduce crowding and encourage distancing, as well as masks being worn. In addition, students that are learning virtually, were able to participate in Reality U, with the help of the senior class (many who have participated in Reality U previously).
This group of volunteers demonstrated leadership, professionalism and took ownership in mentoring the younger class. Many times, the impact of peer to peer mentoring can have a profound effect on student’s outcomes and experience with Reality U, and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with these remarkable kids.
Thank you to Mike Argabright, Superintendent Shane Clark and Douglas Hes, Principals at Olpe Jr/Sr High & Hartford Jr/Sr High, student volunteers and those who participated in Reality U. We are thankful for your partnership and look forward to working with your district again.
