The Kansas Board of Regents administers more than twenty aid programs. These are the ones students most often miss.
Kansas Comprehensive Grant. For financially disadvantaged students at Kansas public universities and participating private colleges. Awards have historically ranged from a few hundred dollars up to around $3,000, with funding set by the legislature. This one requires no separate state application, only the FAFSA, which makes it the easiest state aid to receive. Priority FAFSA deadline is April 1.
Kansas Career Technical Workforce Grant. Formerly the Vocational Educational Scholarship. For students in approved technical programs at two-year and technical colleges, and some four-year institutions, in associate degree programs tied to high-demand fields. Priority given to students with financial need. Maximum award has been $1,000 per year for full-time students, $500 per semester. Requires the FAFSA (priority April 1) and the State of Kansas Student Aid Application (priority May 1), plus nomination by an official at your institution.
Service scholarships. Kansas runs several programs that trade tuition support for a commitment to work in Kansas after graduation, including the Kansas Nursing Service Scholarship and the Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship.
Kansas Ethnic Minority Scholarship. Administered by the Board of Regents for eligible Kansas students.
How to be considered. File the FAFSA at studentaid.gov, then the State of Kansas Student Aid Application at sfa.kansasregents.gov. Deadlines vary by program, so file both as early as you can rather than aiming for the latest date.
