Learn How Money Actually Works

September 4, 2026

Next Gen Personal Finance (ngpf.org) provides free personal finance curriculum and tools, covering budgeting, banking, credit and debt, investing, taxes, insurance, and paying for college. Built for classrooms, but the student-facing activities and calculators work on your own.

Where to start if you are about to graduate. Their materials on paying for college, credit scores, and how a paycheck actually breaks down after taxes are the three most immediately useful.

Paired with paid work locally. The Workforce Alliance Youth Employment Project includes money management as part of its workshop series, so you build the skill alongside earning.

Free tax filing. United Way of the Plains offers free tax preparation each filing season, and filing is worth doing even at low income because of refundable credits.

.
