Start with 211. Dial 211 or search 211kansas.org. Shelter capacity changes nightly, so a call gets you accurate information that a website cannot. United Way of the Plains maintains dedicated quick-reference lists for homeless shelters, low-income and subsidized housing, and rental assistance.
HumanKind Ministries. Shelter and assistance programs in Wichita.
Episcopal Social Services Venture House, 1010 N. Main St., Wichita.
Coalition to End Homelessness, Wichita and Sedgwick County. A cross-sector partnership working toward functional zero homelessness in the community, bringing together nonprofits, faith communities, government, businesses, and people with lived experience. 211 can route you to the right entry point in that system.
If you are a student. Tell your school. Financial aid offices and dean of students offices have emergency funds and housing referrals that are not advertised, and homelessness can affect your financial aid status in ways that work in your favor. Ask about independent student status.
If you are 16 to 24 and need housing plus training, Job Corps is residential and covers housing and meals alongside career training.
