“My kids have grown so much since being involved in Pando,” said Sarah, mother to Travis and
Lailah. “I’ve seen their confidence soar, they’ve slowly come out of their shells and their reading
has improved.” As a 5th grader, Travis was reserved, had little self-confidence and his grades
reflected how he felt about circumstances. After meeting regularly with Savana, the Pando
Student Support Advocate at his school, he began to build trust and gain confidence. As his
confidence grew, his participation in school increased and his academics improved. Like Travis,
Lailah also found Pando to be a safe space, often having lunch with Jane, the Student Support
Advocate at her school, giving her the confidence boost she needed to excel. Through extra
support and academic help, Lailah’s grades improved and by the end of 8th grade, she was more
independent and thriving.
For 33 years, The Pando Initiative has connected students to people, communities, and
organizations, helping them to engage at school and thrive in life. With Pando’s help, students
improve their reading and math skills, attendance, and address concerns that create obstacles
towards helping them reach their full potential.
As our work continues, the demand for services continues to grow. This year, Pando is
serving 25% more schools and more students. This growth is essential if we hope to realize our
vision for the future where every student graduates, ready for their next stage in life.
