Controller directs the financial affairs of the organization and prepares financial analyses of operations, including interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules, for the guidance of management.  The Controller is responsible for the company’s financial plans and policies, accounting practices, the conduct of its relationships with lending institutions and the financial community, the maintenance of fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports.  The position involves supervision over general accounting, property accounting, grant accounting, and budgetary controls.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:                                                                                                               95%

Development, analysis, and interpretation of statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization.

  • Maintains the company’s system of accounts and keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets
  • Establishes major economic objectives and policies for the company and prepares reports that outline the company’s financial position in the area of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and future operations
  • Coordinates and directs the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, institutes and maintains other planning and control procedures (including grant accounting), and analyzes and reports variances
  • Is responsible for tax planning and compliance with all federal, state, and local corporate, payroll, and other applicable taxes
  • Determines depreciation rates to apply to capitalized items and advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax revisions
  • Evaluates and recommends insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities
  • The Controller has the final responsibility for providing effective financial controls for the organization
  • Oversight of the annual financial audit process and grantor audit.  Ensure the accurate and timely completion of items requested by the auditors (e.g. “PBC List” items).
  • Monitor compliance with pronouncements and contractual requirements associated with the organization’s various funding sources
  • Maintain the accounting department’s policies and procedures manual and recommend updates as necessary to the Executive Director
  • Assist with public relations activities including special event and the development of publicity materials
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the agency strategic plan
  • Mandatory participation in agency special events and fundraising

  • Bachelors of Science or post-graduate degree in Accounting
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers and the public


  • CPA certification
  • 5+ years of experience in financial management
  • 3+ year of experience in non-profit financial management
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

HOURS: Franklin: Monday and Wednesday 11 am-4 pm, Friday 10 am-2 pm, up to 15 hours a week. Lawrence: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8:15am-2pm.

The Pando Initiative’s Check & Connect program is a comprehensive intervention designed to enhance student engagement at school, improve attendance and foster school completion. The mentor is responsible for providing personalized interventions under the supervision of the Mentor Team Lead for a caseload of Pre-K – 5th grade students and their families to meet student needs.

Essential/Primary skills needed and Job Functions:

  • Willingness and ability to work with Pre-K through 5th graders and their families to build relationships and develop goals to improve attendance and increase student/family engagement at the school.
  • Willingness to work with parents/guardians of caseload students, including home visitation.
  • Ability to motivate students to participate at school by personalizing interventions and targeting strategies to meet student need.
  • Ability to assist students and families to set personal and educational goals-both immediate and future-oriented.
  • Ability to help students and families solve and successfully meet the everyday demands of the school environment.
  • Ability to work with the team at the school to provide needed supports to the student and family.

Education, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Some knowledge of community resources is preferred.
  • Requires confidentiality, a strong work ethic, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to navigate on-line data management systems with appropriate training.
  • Reliable, on-time and regular attendance required.
  • Reliable form of transportation and insurance required.

Student Support Advocates (SSA) coordinate services to students and families to help students engage in school and thrive! SSA’s implement programs, activities and student interventions based upon the specific needs of each student and their family.  The Student Support Advocate works with community partners and volunteers to bring needed services into the schools to help students succeed.  The SSA is responsible for being a positive role model for students, building positive relationships and maintaining open communication with parents, the community and with school staff. Coordinates referrals of students and their families to outside agencies for services not provided on site. Is responsible for meeting deadlines, attending special events, entering data in The Pando Initiative data management system and submitting monthly reports as required.
